7 Mistakes That Ruin AI Generations

Most bad results come from the same handful of errors. Learn what NOT to do, and your success rate will double overnight — no new skills required, just fewer mistakes.

Mistake #1: The Kitchen-Sink Prompt

Cramming every adjective you know into one prompt doesn't make it better — it makes it confused. 'Beautiful stunning gorgeous breathtaking woman' gives the model four competing instructions for the same thing. Pick ONE strong word per concept.

\u2717 Kitchen sink:

a beautiful stunning gorgeous breathtaking amazing woman with long flowing silky hair

\u2713 One word per idea:

a woman with long dark hair

Mistake #2: Negative Prompts That Backfire

Writing 'no blur, no distortion, no extra fingers' seems smart — but the model hears 'blur, distortion, extra fingers'. It can't process negation well. Describe what you WANT, never what you DON'T want.

  • Don't write: 'no blurry background'
  • Do write: 'sharp background'
  • Don't write: 'not cartoonish'
  • Do write: 'photorealistic'

Mistake #3: Contradictory Instructions

'Photorealistic anime style' is an oxymoron. 'Bright dark moody lighting' cancels itself out. Every contradiction forces the model to guess — and it usually guesses wrong. Pick ONE style, ONE lighting, ONE mood per prompt.

Mistake #4: Ignoring the Hands

Hands are where AI fails most visibly. Prompts that hide hands ('arms behind back', 'hands in pockets') or explicitly request simple poses ('hands resting naturally') avoid the #1 source of uncanny results.

Hand-safe prompt additions:

  • 'hands resting at sides' — simple, safe
  • 'arms crossed' — hides the problem elegantly
  • 'holding a coffee cup' — gives hands a job
  • Avoid: 'intricate hand gestures', 'fingers intertwined'

More Pitfalls to Dodge

Changing 5 things between retries

When the result improves (or worsens), you won't know why. Change ONE element per retry — that's how you learn what works.

Judging by the thumbnail

Thumbnails hide flaws AND quality. Always view at full size before deciding to keep or retry.

Forgetting the background

'A woman' with no setting gives you a random void. Even 'simple dark background' is better than nothing.

Giving up after 2 tries

Pros iterate 10-20 times per keeper. Your 3rd try isn't supposed to be perfect — it's supposed to teach you something.

The Anti-Mistake Shortcut

Use templates as guardrails. Our 60+ templates are pre-debugged — they avoid all 7 mistakes by construction. Start there.

When in doubt, simplify. A short, clear prompt beats a long, confused one every single time.

Review failures for patterns. Same mistake twice? That's a lesson. Write down what went wrong.

Stop making these mistakes
